188 Years Later . . .

Men were opposed to Baptist associations and they were labeled anti mission agitators. Perhaps I am the only person who views the mess Adrian Rogers left as his legacy as proof of what these agitators claimed would result from these "newfangled" views.

1) These associations are man-made and contrary to scripture.
2) Associations usurp the authority of Christ over His Church. He alone calls men and assigns them to their fields.
3) Associations violate the independence of the local Church.
4) A Paid ministry is like a modern Tetzel, or like the money changers whom Christ drove out of the temple.
5) The better educated ministers overshadow the less educated and unpaid preachers.
6) These associations are schemes of Arminianism, prompted by desire for money and fame. *

Several Sundays ago my pastor made the statement, "William Carey went for seven years without a convert in India." This is a popular brag by Baptist. It supposedly demonstrates humility and trust in God! I think it demonstrates a strong self determination! Needless to say I approached the pastors at the close of the 8AM service and ask them, "How many souls did John Ryland Sr baptize during that seven year period?" Neither of the pastors knew who Ryland was until I refreshed their memory. He was the elder Calvinist who said to Carey when he made a request to go on the mission field, "young man sit down, God will convert the heathen when he pleases" (paraphrased quote) My pastor laughed at me when I said that my sympathies were with Ryland rather than Carey. "I believe that we should be reliant on the Holy Spirit to guide us." He said, well Charles I have to disagree with you but we are still "friends". I walked away wondering if everyone who expresses an opposing view gets laughed at.

Charles...who are you speaking of when you use the initials M.C.? Is this another sex predator on Bellevue's staff?

WatchingHISstory said...

I don't know who MC is. Anonymous left the initials for me. He said that if I had discovered that EB was Elmer Bailey (actually you suggested that but Anon seems to know) he implied that I should find out who MC is.

perhaps it is just a wild goose chase on his part.

MC could be the staff member who was paid the settlement

Michael Carrier?

WatchingHISstory said...

who is he?

Straight Path said...

A former Bellevue minister.

If your still digging for information,

I have read that lofty article about Bellevue before. The comments Rogers makes about Christ are great but everything else smacks of avarice and ego.

What year did Bellevue pay off Michael Carrier?

Straight Path said...

What law firm represented Michael Carrier?

WatchingHISstory said...

GMOMMY seems to have all the details about that. It was ten years ago according to her (1998)
Her husband worked with him assuming that he is Michael Carrier.

She knew (her nieces' friend) the girl involved in the affair. GMOMMY was close to the wife of the minister.

I'm telling you $500,000 is a huge (did I say HUGE) out-of-court settlement.

Is Michael Carrier the minister in question?

WatchingHISstory said...

Does anyone know how to find out which law firm handled the Carrier case?

Charles:

The following info may help you in your search for answers to your questions.

Call the proper courthouse tomorrow and inform a clerk that you want to obtain the complaint and other court documents from a lawsuit that was apparently settled. Tell them you believe the plaintiff is Michael Carrier but the defendant is Bellevue Baptist Church.

If the church really settled with Michael Carrier in 1998, then you still don't know what year the lawsuit was filed. It was probably 97 or 98; or maybe even 96. But it was probably 98, and Bellevue Baptist rushed it.

Uncertified legal documents usually cost about 25 cents per copy.

I cannot vote in your current poll because you failed to include an I DON'T KNOW answer. Voting YES or NO would just be a judgment call.

Straight Path said...

or possibly even a guess.

Anyway...does anybody know...

Did the Carriers divorce after the exposure of Michael's infidelity?

BTW, Charles, M.C. should be about 60 now. I was attending a service at Bellevue once and he was preaching. He gave his age.

SP

I didn't want anyone to guess and I did not see why anyone would lie.

I guess only a handful of people would know what Rogers knew. I suppose that the best disciplined person could control what he knew so that if he was confronted with the truth he could deny knowledge and not be lying. "I know you are going to be paying him a half million, I just don't want to know why." I would struggled with hatred in my heart for a man who would do that to me.

You know he almost does that with the conservative resurgence. He seems to imply that it was necessarily accomplished with backroom tactics and that he was merely a front man who just wanted to mind his own buisness.

It must be loney at the top!

I don't want to be nosy here but it appears Gmommy was once a minister's wife. On one of the blogs I READ, I think she mentioned being divorced. Baptist ministers usually NEVER divorce. They rape children and have clandestine affairs, but divorce is out of the question.

Do you know why Gmommy is divorced and who her husband was?

WatchingHISstory said...

She said her husband worked with MC.
I was notr certain of her current status. She had reference her abuse, but I don't know the details.

Gmommy was married to that abusive SOB Paige Patterson advised her to go home and pray for.
After his "conversion" he continued to cheat on her and beat the crap out of her again, so she got the heck out of Dodge and divorced him. Last I heard he was the pastor of an SBC church in Indiana.

WatchingHISstory said...

If he is divorced how can he be a pastor of a SBC in Indiana?

How can Patterson be so bad and Rogers so good? He and Patterson were united together in belief of Family unity.

Charles Stanley is divorced and he's the senior pastor of FBC Atlanta.
